Where it all started
Randy Woody was born Randall James Woody to Grover Woody and Robin Hudgens on December 28th, 1981, in Maryville, Tennessee, right at the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. From an early age it was clear, Randy was gonna play music. Randy grew up watching his mother and grandparents play live shows – singing gospel and country classics and sharing their faith in churches across Tennessee. This prompted Randy to start writing songs and at 9 years old he wrote his first song. However, February 7th, 1993, his world would change forever. His grandfather passed away and Randy backed away from music through his teenage years. Randy went on to excel in sports such as football and basketball in Sweetwater, Tennessee. It wasn’t too long after high school that his first love came back around again. His mother bought him his first guitar for Christmas when he was 19 years old, and after sitting in with some good teachers, such as his mentor Michael Mclemore, his mom, step-grandfather, and a few cousins, he was off! Randy’s mom bought him a music book that showed how to play all of Hank Williams Jr songs – it fueled the fire that still burns today. Around age 23 Randy met some friends that shared his interest in music. Picking around East Tennessee, Randy, Johnathan Cook, and Jason Russell decided it was time to take their talents to a new level. They started a band. In 2006 Randy Woody and The Southbound Band was born. Johnathan and Randy started writing together and since then have penned well over 100 songs. A few years later, Jason Harris joined, along with Neil Turpin and the Southbound sound was born. Randy and the band went on to work with artists like David Allan Coe, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Luke Bryan, Chicago, Doug Stone, Confederate Railroad, and Roger Allan Wade, just to name a few. Randy has since moved to Oregon where he started another band – The Damn Band. You can see them performing all over the Pacific Northwest. Randy Woody brings that classic country sound back to life – mixed with original songs and your occasional rowdy country anthem. Randy’s booming voice rattles any venue you catch him. More importantly, Randy has never forgotten his musical roots and still takes time to tip his hat to the country greats that came before him. He has music on all streaming platforms with a full Nashville studio album called “Randy Woody and Southbound -She went to Harvard, I went to Waylon”. The title song is written by legendary songwriters Tommy Barnes and the late Bernie Faulkner. He also has 5 new singles out from the new album “Randy Woody – Uppers and Downers “. If you get the chance to catch a Randy Woody show, you’ll leave there knowing you just experienced a REAL country music show.
